Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

GeoMagna is seeking a skilled Mechanical Design Engineer to join our engineering team at our UK headquarters in Blandford Forum. You will be responsible for designing and developing mechanical components and assemblies for our range of offshore electronic products, from initial concept through to manufacture and production.

Working closely with our electronics and software teams, you will ensure that mechanical designs are optimised for reliability, manufacturability, and performance in harsh marine environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD software (OnShape or equivalent)
• Create detailed manufacturing drawings and bills of materials
• Specify materials and manufacturing processes appropriate for offshore marine use
• Work with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure designs are produced to specification
• Conduct design reviews and prototype testing to validate mechanical performance
• Collaborate with electronics engineers to integrate mechanical and electronic systems
• Support continuous improvement of existing products and manufacturing processes
• Maintain technical documentation in line with company procedures

Requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline
• Proven experience in mechanical product design, ideally in an industrial or marine environment
• Proficiency in 3D CAD design (OnShape experience would be an advantage)
• Good understanding of manufacturing processes including machining, moulding, and fabrication
• Experience with pressure housing design and sealing systems an advantage
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work to tight tolerances
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a small engineering team
